Weyland-Yutani Corporation Logo-1-

Weyland-Yutani is a fictional company which was first introduced in the film Alien (although not named as such until Alien 3) and is a prominent force in the Alien universe. In typical "evil corporation" fashion, Weyland-Yutani is obsessed with the hostile cunning Xenomorphs and wants to cultivate, study, and exploit them.

The Company[]

Weyland-Yutani: Building Better Worlds

Weyland-Yutani is an Anglo-Japanese interstellar conglomerate (referred to as "The Company" by its employees) with diverse interests. In Alien, Weyland-Yutani owns the USCSS Nostromo, a space-faring automated ore refinery. It also makes artificially-intelligent androids that can pass for human. In Aliens Weyland-Yutani is terraforming and colonizing the planet "Hadley's Hope" (Acheron) and is a powerful military contractor. In Alien 3 the planet "Fury" (Fiorina 161) is a prison planet for violent male offenders run by Weyland-Yutani. The facility has an ore refinery and a lead-refining works staffed by the prisoners and controlled by the "custodians". In Alien: Resurrection it is revealed that Weyland-Yutani had gone out of business and its assets were now controlled by Walmart.

There is a lot of signage, work clothing and computer screens with the Weyland-Yutani logos on them in the first two films. However, it is not until Alien 3 that the name of "The Company" is spoken of directly by name.

In Alien, the company's name is Weyland-Yutani Kabushiki Kaisha (Japanese > "Joint-Stock Company") and its symbol is an Egyptian-style scarab beetle with its wings outstretched. In AVP: Alien vs. Predator we meet billionaire Charles Bishop Weyland, head of the Weyland Group ("Building a Better World") and presumably the ancestor of Michael Bishop Weyland from Alien3. In Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem we meet Ms. Yutani, presumably the founder of Yutani Technologies, who receives the Predator's recovered plasma pistol. In Prometheus we meet Sir Peter Weyland, founder of Weyland Industries.

Brand Connections[]

The script for Alien: Resurrection, the fourth (and last) movie in the series, was written by Joss Whedon. Whedon then included Weyland-Yutani in his series Angel as a client of the law firm of Wolfram & Hart and as a supplier of weapons in the series Firefly. The Weyland-Yutani logo is also seen in the V episode "We Can't Win" and in the film Underwater. A Weyland-Yutani ship can also be seen in the Red Dwarf episode "Psirens". The Weyland corporation, prior to its merging with Yutani appears in Death Race 2.
